The history of the Black Forest follows the ledge of Anton Ketterer, a clock-maker form the black forest around 1730.  The clock history began at least 100 years before the cuckoo bird was introduced. The black forest had harsh winters. The people would practice the art of wood carving in the winter months and farming in the mild seasons. The cuckoo clocks developed into may styles and functions. The styles vary and the function range from the amount of days they run to the cuckoo to the option of musical pieces being added.

 

Shield Clocks were most common between 1750-1850. These clocks were open on the sides to reveal the clock movements. There were painted in a varitey of styles.

 

Railway Clocks were designed beginning in 1850. There were designed from the highest quality of craftmanship.
